Engine Sounds to Listen Out for in Your Jeep

When traveling around the mid-Michigan region, your Jeep works hard to get you and your family where you need to go efficiently and with the trusted performance you have come to expect from it. However, there might be a time when you start hearing strange sounds coming from the engine. If this is the case, it might be time to schedule a service appointment at Thelen Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Bay City, MI as quickly as possible. These sounds can mean something in or on your engine is starting to fail and needs to be addressed to prevent long-term damage.

What Sounds Should I Be Listening For?

Squealing – If you hear a high-pitched squeal when you accelerate or when you start your Jeep, there is a likelihood that a belt has either become loose or is worn out. Either way, this should be taken care of to prevent any damage to the belt or the engine. When you bring your Jeep in for an appointment at our Service Center, our technicians will be happy to provide whatever service is required to get the belt back to the way it should be.

Clicking – If you are starting to run low on oil in your Jeep, your engine might start clicking. If you notice this while driving, it is highly advised to check your vehicle’s oil levels as quickly as possible. Low oil levels can cause significant damage to an engine and should be taken care of immediately. If you notice levels are fine, then our technicians will look for whatever else might be causing the problem.

Loud Knocking – This is a sound that no matter what might be causing it needs to be looked at immediately. Knocking means something deeper within the engine is having a potential issue. From a poor mixture of air and fuel to failing rod shafts, these can cause engines to fail if not handled quickly. Don’t wait to contact us if you start hearing this sound while on the road.
