2019 Jeep Cherokee safety features

The capable and feature-filled 2019 Jeep Cherokee has received the Insurance Institute of Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick rating for vehicles produced after April 2019.  The vehicle must be equipped with the available Forward Collision Warning-Plus Automatic Emergency Braking technology.   The Front Collision Warning-Plus system was rated as ‘superior’ for front crash prevention.  This available system uses sensor-fusion technology and camera capability with radar detection to try to detect a potential impact.  The system then warns the driver to take action, if possible.  The system can also activate braking if the driver does not respond quickly enough or the collision potential is still valid.  Another feature needed to receive this rating is the LED projector headlamps with optional automatic high beam control.  This feature can automatically switch the headlamps between high- and low-beam functions as needed.

This rating acknowledges the effectiveness of the Cherokee design and its more than 80 advanced safety and security features.  Design innovations such as high-strength-steel upgrades to the A-pillar and hinge-pillar contributed to the Cherokee receiving this rating.

During testing, the Jeep Cherokee received ‘good’ results for all six crashworthiness tests.  This is the highest possible rating in these tests, which include three which simulate frontal impacts and three more than show the potential damage of a side impact, rear impact, and rollover.
