Washing Car

No matter the age of your vehicle, you can keep the exterior looking great with a little effort.  From frequent washing and waxing to wise parking choices, there are many things you can do to take care of your vehicle’s exterior.   Here are a few easy tips to get you started!

  1.  KEEP IT CLEAN–   This might seem like an obvious idea but one that is often overlooked.  Whether you choose a professional car wash or doing the job at home, this is a sure way to keep your car looking great through the years. If you choose to clean your own vehicle, remember to always use car-specific cleaning products since other household cleaners can be too harsh.  For those living in a more suburban setting, this might mean washing the vehicle twice a month, while those in rural areas might need to tackle it weekly since there is likely to be more debris in the air.
  2. WAX ON– Applying vehicle wax leaves your vehicle shiny and protected.  The wax forms a protective barrier for your vehicle’s paint.  It is a good idea to apply another coat about every three months.
  3. COVER IT– Even if you park your vehicle in a garage, dust still settles on the finish.  A good quality car cover will protect the finish from dust and also from scratches or dings caused by activity near the vehicle.
  4. PARK WISELY– When possible, do not park under trees where sap and bird droppings can fall on your vehicle.  Also, try to park away from other vehicles in a parking lot to reduce the chance of door dings and scratches.
  5. CHOOSE THE RIGHT TOOLS FOR THE JOB– Always choose tools that are made for vehicle washing.  Don’t use a cloth that will leave swirls or scratches in the finish.  A soft washing mitt and microfiber cloth for drying are perfect!  Don’t use a brush or scrubber on your vehicle’s paint job.
  6. TRUST THE EXPERTS– Keeping your vehicle maintained yourself is a super idea but having an expert detailing done will really make a difference.  Aim to have your vehicle professionally detailed at least once per year.  The experts at the Thelen Auto Detailing Center have the experience and tools needed to bring out your vehicle’s shine.  Schedule your appointment today!
